Dr. Tom Kanon, archivist at Tennessee State Library and Archives will give a presentation on “Tennesseans at War 1812 -1815” at the Heritage Center located at 465 Railroad Avenue, Tracy City on Saturday, March 14, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. The public is invited. Admission is free. The presentation is a part of the March Quarterly Meeting of the Grundy County Historical Society. Anyone wishing to become a member of the Society may do so at the meeting.
Dr. Kanon holds a doctoral degree in Public History from Middle Tennessee State University. For the past fifteen years he has been writing and speaking on topics related to the southern frontier of the Early Republic, particularly the period of the War of 1812. His articles have been featured in such periodicals as the Tennessee Historical Quarterly, Filson History Quarterly, Journal of East Tennessee History, and Ohio Valley History. Dr Kanon has recently completed a book length treatment of Tennessee and the War of 1812 entitled Tennesseans at War 1812: Andrew Jackson, the Creek War, and the Battle of New Orleans published by the University of Alabama Press.
Dr Kanon lives in Madison, Tennessee with his wife, Sandra, and their aptly named dog, Jackson. Sandra is formerly Sandra Nunley of Grundy County.
